ChrisP joins the fray!

I'm in! This will be a place to share my latest artistic projects and link to other artists that inspire me. My initial reason for starting this blog is as a place to put forth a children's book I'm working on, mostly to teach myself about the process. The book is based on our experiences raising a grumpy toddler named Gus (tentatively titled "Grumpy Gus"). I'm hoping for this to be an open critique forum so my wife, Emily, doesn't always have to be my go-to critic (she has particularly great color instincts!), so please chime in. Also, this will keep me accountable - I will endeavor to post a page or 2 every week. Here's a look at the "in-progress" first page!

  4. Great style, love how you put textures on wood walls.. can't wait to see the next one.
And small comment on the dark room.
One small critique...The black color is too black, or just change your and emily's shirt color to a different one..
Can you see, .. I'm not a big fan of too much black on the children book..

  5. Thanks everybody! Good point, Elli - I was going for a bit more subdued look in this one so when he gets full on Grumpy in page 2, the color will pop more. I can see that area behind him not being so black though, might take a shot at the shirts too - thanks, I'll probably post revisions of these along the way...splash page 2 & 3 is almost ready too!

  6. By the way, Maggie - the straw is straight from the chicken coop in the backyard!

  7. Chris, Love it. Only thing is your hair color and background too close. Otherwise, I am always a big fan of your art. :)
